Which Skincare Ingredients Can You Use Together?

Mixing skincare ingredients to achieve your goal of flawless skin is one of the best ways to make the most of your skincare regimen. But with so many different products on the market, it can be confusing to know what actually pairs well with each other as a “power couple”

Skincare Ingredients That Work Better Together. Mixing Skincare Products.

Salicylic acid and niacinamide. This is going to be great for minimizing pore size. You see, your skin pores grow bigger because of excessive sebum oil and lack of collagen. Being oil-soluble, salicylic acid easily enters your skin pores, removes the dirt stuck around the hair follicle and cleans things out. It is also going to reach into sebaceous glands beneath your skin to influence oil production. Where niacinamide steps in, is that it will also decrease sebum oil production by reducing fatty acid and glyceride.

Vitamin C and Vitamin E. Vitamin C helps to build your skin’s collagen layer. A Lack of vitamin C in your skin can trigger several skin issues. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble antioxidant found in the outermost layer of your skin. But regular exposure to sunlight drains out the vitamin E from the layer. When combined with vitamin C, Vitamin E receives an anti aging boost.

Retinol and hyaluronic acid. Now this benefit is for collagen production and speeding up the turnover process of the skin. Retinol speeds up the cellular turnover of your skin and stimulates collagen production. Where Hyaluronic acid steps in is during the retinol process, it works as a hydrating agent and draws the water into your skin cell to plump it up.

Glycolic acid and Resveratrol. Resveratol is derived from grapes. It is technically an antioxidant that reduces pigmentation, inflammation, and fights against signs of aging.  Glycolic acid on the other hand is derived from sugar cane, beets, and unripe grapes. Its an alpha hydroxy acid that works a lot like a chemical peel. How these two work together is for hyperpigmentation. Resveratrol inhibits melanin formation or melanogenesis. Glycolic acid inhibits tyrosinase activity. Tyrosinase is the enzyme your skin needs to make melanin, the pigment that makes the skin darker.

Centella Asiatica with Vitamin C serum. Centella Asiatica is well known for its anti-oxidant, anti-ageing, and wound healing properties. This is because the saponins contained within Centella Asiatica extracts like madecassoside fight free radicals. And like we touched on earlier, Another well-known antioxidant that promotes wound-healing is vitamin C as it is possibly the best-known stimulator of collagen.

Now a good way to make sure these combos will sit well on your skin is to do a patch test. A patch test is mandatory while experimenting with active ingredients regardless of your skin type because you want to ensure they work with you and not against you.
